December 2014

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year

With kids jingle belling

And everyone telling you “Be of good cheer”

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

It’s the hap-happiest season of all”

Yes, December and Christmas is without a doubt the most wonderful time as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. I would like to encourage our citizens to reach out this Christmas Season and share God’s love with others. Find some way to get involved in helping those who need a helping hand. Volunteer to ring the bells for the Salvation Army kettle, take an angel from an Angel Tree and buy a special gift for someone you do not know, volunteer at the Hem of His Garment, Habitat for Humanity, the USO, the Food Bank, visit a shut in and surprise them with a plate of homemade cookies, fill a shoebox for Samaritan’s Purse, visit a nursing home or rehab center.  These are just a few of the ways you can make Christmas more meaningful for someone and for yourself. Christmas is not about receiving but it is about Giving. It is about sharing God’s love with strangers, family, neighbors and friends. In order to find ourselves we need to lose ourselves in service to others.

Let us pray for our young men and women who are in the Military service. For many of these   young men and women if will be their first Christmas away from home. Take time to say hello and thank them for their service and say “God Bless You for what you do for us.” We will never know what a simple hello and thanks will mean to them.

As we decorate our homes, trim our trees, bake our cookies, cakes and pies, light our candles and sing our favorite carols lets us reach out in love and take time to really enjoy the season and celebrate Christmas. All to often we get so wrapped up in our schedule and our own agendas we forget the true meaning of Christmas.  Christmas means sharing the gift of love with others.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year

There’ll be much mistletoeing

And hearts will be glowing

When loved ones are near

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”

May God Bless you and your family.  May you experience the Love, Joy, Peace and Hope of this Holy Season.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
