The Town has lifeguards stationed at the Eastern Ocean Regional Access and the Western Ocean Regional Access April through September. There are also roaming lifeguards patrolling all 12 miles of the Town's beach strand.

View the Bogue Banks Beach Safety videos below, for an overview on the joint beach warning flag system used in Emerald Isle, Indian Beach, Pine Knoll Shores and Atlantic Beach, in addition to a video about rip currents and how to escape the grip of the rip. Thank you to our neighboring towns for partnering with us in this important safety messaging.

The Town has installed rescue cans at several public beach access locations in recent years, with many sponsored by concerned citizens. View our video depicting the proper use of these rescue cans.
