Mark Taylor was elected to serve a four-year term as an Emerald Isle Commissioner in November 2017, and was sworn in for his second term in December 2021.
Mark grew up in the small town of Eden, NC. just outside of Greensboro and spent his summers in Emerald Isle vacationing with his parents and two brothers. Over the years of vacationing his love for Emerald Isle was born.
Mark met his wife Tonya shortly out of high school while attending a local community college. Tonya, like Mark, spent her childhood summers growing up in Emerald Isle. During her visits her love for the island was also born.
They both continued their education with Mark focusing in Aviation. He now holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation and is currently an airline Captain. Mark also enjoys working in real estate as a broker and as a NC. licensed Auctioneer.
Mark and Tonya's love of Emerald Isle continued to grow over the years. In 2008 they decided to move their family to Emerald Isle. Their daughter graduated from East Carolina University and their son attends Croatan High School.
Mark started serving the citizens of Emerald Isle when he was appointed to the planning board in 2015. During his time on the board his love for the Island and its people continued to grow. After learning that Commissioner Wright was not going to seek reelection, he decided to run for commissioner so he could further serve the citizens of Emerald Isle.
You can find Mark and his family enjoying the beaches all year. They enjoy fishing, boating, walking on the beach and hunting for antiques.
