MEETING RECAP: March 11, 2025 - Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners Regular Meetings

During the Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners meeting on March 11, 2025, the following actions were taken. 

NOTE: Official minutes will be produced, reviewed, and approved at the next open public BOC meeting.

• Mayor Holland and all Commissioners were present
• Public Comment was held with three commenters from 6:02 to 6:08 PM.
• Mayor Holland reviewed follow-ups to public comments from the February 11, 2025 Board of Commissioners meeting and paper copies were available.
• The Board unanimously adopted the agenda.
• A video played showing public announcements and Town happenings. 
• Mayor Holland recognized Vera Gaskins who served as an Emerald Isle Commissioner from 1991-1995, Mayor Pro-Tem from 1995-1997, and Mayor from 1997-1999 and passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Holland held a moment of silence in her honor.
• Representatives from the Carteret County Tax Office presented updates regarding property tax revaluations, which are expected to be mailed out on March 26, 2025.
• The Board unanimously approved the Consent Agenda.
• The Board unanimously approved updates to the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment bylaws. 
• The Board unanimously approved of the purchase of a used ambulance to expand Advanced Life Support (ALS) services in the Coast Guard Road area by utilizing the U.S. Coast Guard Station at 11101 Terrell Horne III Way to temporarily place a used ambulance during the busy summer season.
• Interim Town Manager Randy Martin and Human Resources Specialist Jennifer Welborn gave an update regarding staff health benefits.
• The Board unanimously voted to table a discussion of requiring the Mayor and Commissioners to complete the “Essentials of Municipal Government” course until their April 8, 2025 meeting.
• The Mayor and Board updated the public on their Town Manager selection and transition process and officially introduced Interim Town Manager Randy Martin. No actions were taken.
• Interim Town Manager Randy Martin introduce George “Rudi” Rudolph who is serving as the Town’s Interim Planning Director. 
• The meeting unanimously adjourned at 7:44 PM.
