Opportunities

Blood Drives

Blood Drives are held in Emerald isle every 2 months. There is a need for people to publicize the event, to register people, and to hand out cookies and drinks to the people that donate. Many people that volunteer are people that for one reason or another cannot donate, but want to support the project. There is always a need for blood donations. If interested in helping, please contact Kristin Willis with the American Red Cross at 252-341-1325 or email Kristin Willis.

Carteret Literacy Council

Learn how to share your love for reading with others by being a volunteer tutor. The Carteret Literacy Council provides the training you need to be certified as a tutor to those who need assistance to improve reading, writing, and math skills. A few hours of your time can lead to a lifetime of fulfillment for someone else. Learn more!

Cleanup Projects

Many people walk the beach every day and pick up any trash they see. We thank them very much. This along with the trash pickup performed by our Public Works Department, keeps our beach in very good shape. The Civitan Club also picks up trash weekly during the summer and spring along the multi-use paths.

Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation

This is a call for volunteers to assist with upcoming events. What a great way to serve your community and be part of the fun and excitement at the same time! We know you may not be able to assist with every event, but just a little bit of help here and there can make a big difference in creating memorable events.

Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Protection Program

This group walks the beach each day during turtle nesting season to identify the location of new turtle nests, and to make sure the beach is in proper condition during turtle hatching season. Typically volunteers are assigned a section of the beach to walk each day, and to notify the leaders of any nests identified. For more information call Dale Baquer, Program Coordinator 252-646-8292 or email Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol.

EMS Department

Please call the EMS Department at 252-354-2249 if you are interested in volunteering.

Fire Department

Volunteers serve in many ways! Firefighters are always needed, but there is also a need for public educators and other roles. You can make a difference just by being on hand to give relief to the firefighters during an emergency. There really is a job for everyone. Email Chief Walker for details, or call him at 252-354-2445.

Friends of the Western Carteret Library

This group has been one of our biggest success stories. Through book sales, yard sales, donations, and a lot of hard work, they have enabled the western part of Carteret County to go from no library, to a state of the art library and learning center. To get involved call 252-393-6500.

Ft. Macon Tour Guides

Learn some fascinating local history and volunteer to give tours (averaging 40 minutes) of beautiful old Ft. Macon. This is one of the most visited state parks, and guides have the pleasure of taking visitors on casual walking tours from April through October. The time commitment is only a few hours per month, but the rewards are great-people, some from distant parts, are always surprised to explore and learn about the beautifully restored structure, and to hear some of the history of this storied site. No need to be an expert-even our "training" is fun. Call John Rhodes at 252-393-7313, or email him for more information.

Island Cat Allies

This group captures wild cats, sterilizes them, and returns them to the place where they were found. This keeps the cats to a manageable number, and prevents them from overpopulating an area.

North Carolina Aquarium Pine Knoll Shores
